There is a growing belief among many people that humanity is at the threshold of transformation. However there is a dichotomy of understanding as to how and to what form that transformation will be. The exponential advance of technologies is frequently referred to as Singularity. Ray Kurzweil hijacked a scientific term still that usually related to black holes and redefined it to refer to point at which the rapid and exponential advance of technology will out performs our ability to implement and deploy that technology. The implementation of some of those technologies into the human body in order to transcend the accepted limitations of the mind, body, and DNA is referred to now as Transhumanism. Many scientists at the forefront of this field believe that before we eendeavorto create androids, it is more likely that we will integrate technology and genetic manipulation into our own bodies. These will work with the human body to enhance and improve mental abilities such as intellect, access to information, communications; and physical abilities through bionic implants & enhancements. This subject has many advocates but equally it has many detractors. The emergence of Transhumanism, and especially the pivotal point when artificial intelligence likely achieves sentience in the next decade will raise some difficult questions for humanity. Many scientists at the forefront of this field believe that before we endeavour to create androids, it is more likely that we will integrate technology and genetic manipulation into our own bodies. Many people like my self believe that there will be a dichotomy of opinion regarding emergence of this Transhumanism. The potent forces of religion and atheism will also play a strong part in the dichotomy of beliefs. Many will believe that a new improved trans- human will develop because the unlocked potential. Some others will probably feel that these implants will hold back the natural evolution of humanity which is meant to evolve on the spiritual rather than the material plane. They refer here to Transcendence. There is a belief that DNA itself is undergoing a natural evolution in stages and leaps forward rather than in a linear progression. Although the science is not empirical here, there are interesting developments and discoveries which support the concept that change will come collectively and also from within. Many in the new age movement will point to changes that they perceive or recognize to have already began; these being spiritual changes in the collective unconscious.
Dawn of the Transhuman
